Connection to the world

Míla's telecommunications system

Míla’s telecommunication system is extremely robust and diverse, based on two main systems: Access Network and Trunk Network. Míla also operates international Trunk Network, where two submarine cables connect Iceland to the world.

Míla's Trunk Network builds on copperlines, fiberoptic cables and microwave connections. The network includes all urban cores in Iceland.

Míla's Access Network builds mostly on copperlines but also fiberoptic cables and microwave connections. Nearly all companies and households in Iceland are connected to the copper line system.

There are mainly two submarine cables connecting Iceland to the world. FARICE was taken in use 2004. DANICE was taken in use 2008. The third submarine cable is Greenland Connect, connects Iceland to Canada via Greenland.
